A small submarine, transporting tourists to explore the wreckage of the Titanic, has gone missing.

According to authorities’ estimates, the tourist submersible carrying five people on board has gone missing and has less than 30 hours of air remaining. On Sunday, contact with the small sub was lost, more than halfway into its dive to the Titanic wreck site off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada. Among the individuals on board are British-Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman, British businessman and explorer Hamish Harding, former French Navy diver Paul-Henry Nargeolet (who has previously explored the Titanic), and Stockton Rush, the chief executive of OceanGate – the firm responsible for the dive. The urgent search mission, deemed “very complex” by the US Coast Guard, has now been joined by international planes and ships.
